Meeting Minutes – Hanson Town Hall
April 15, 2014

Members Present:        Stephen Amico, James Egan, Richard Flynn, Donald Howard and David Soper
Members Absent:
Others Present: Town Administrator Ronald San Angelo and Executive Assistant Meredith Marini


I~      7:30 p.m.   Chairman Egan called the meeting to order, led the Pledge Allegiance.  Mr. Egan requested a moment of silence in recognition of the Boston Marathon bombing.  Mr. Egan read the announcements, and upcoming meeting schedule.

II      TOWN ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT     
        Mr. San Angelo is working with the Building Inspector on an invitation to bid for the restoration of town hall for replacement of trim and painted.  He indicated that the Police Sgt. exam will be coming up.  The Chief asked the Mr. San Angelo prepare an RFP for an assessment center.   Chief John Cowen from East Bridgewater  and Mrs. Marini participated in the process.  Two of the three companies met the standard of requirement.  He will be presenting a recommendation at the next meeting.

Mr. San Angelo has been working with ABC for solid waste removal and hauling services.  He has reviewed the contracts and has sent them to Town Counsel for review.  He hopes to have a contract by the next meeting.  He will be contacting Plymouth County Commissioners regarding the status of their work in the solid waste removal.

Mr. Amico asked about a price for the hauling.  Mr. San Angelo indicated the cost was less than the current proposed hauling costs.  He believes the costs are reduced because he is negotiating a package.  Mr. San Angelo has required that new color coded containers be provided as part of the contract.  There will be single stream recycling which will include paper, plastics and glass.  Cardboard will have to be separated.  Mr. San Angelo noted there will be an overlap in services as the current hauler who has a contract through October 2014.  Mr. San Angelo will be meeting with Allied Waste relative to releasing the town from the contract.

Mr. San Angelo reported that he attended the “We Are All In This Together” event at the Hanson Senior Center.  It was a good opportunity to meet with the seniors.  Representatives from the State were on hand to answer questions and provide services to the Seniors.  

Mr. San Angelo announced the retirement of Firefighter Wayne Carroll after 25 years of service to the Hanson Fire Department.  He thanked Mr. Carroll for his service.  The Board wished him good luck in retirement.

III     NEW BUSINESS    
        Sign Town Meeting Warrants for Posting

MOTION by Amico, second by Flynn to sign the Special and Annual Town Meeting warrants.  
Voted 5 – 0

The Board congratulated Kristen Merlin on achievement of reaching the live performances on the Voice.

Finance Committee is working on the warrant recommendations.

Olde Hitching Post Restaurant – Vote Pledge of Liquor License to Rockland Trust
Mrs. Marini explained that financial institutions regularly request the liquor license holder to pledge the liquor license.

MOTION by  Howard, second by Amico to approve the Pledge of License of the Olde Hitching Post Restaurant to Rockland Trust.  Voted 5 – 0
        
        Appointments/Resignations:
        Resignation of David Trapp from the Finance Committee effective May 6th.

MOTION by  Amico, second by Flynn to accept with regret the resignation of David Trapp from the Finance Committee.  Voted 5  - 0 .

The Board thanked Mr. Trapp for his service.

IV      OLD BUSINESS- None Heard


V       COMMITTEE REPORTS
        Monponsett Pond – Mr. Howard missed the last meeting.  He will provide a report at the next Selectmen’s meeting.
        School Building Committee – Mr. San Angelo indicated that there was no quorum so a general discussion regarding educating the Hanson Resident.
        Activities Committee – Mr. San Angelo reminded everyone that Hanson Day is June 8th from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Camp Kiwanee.  Mr. San Angelo indicated that he sent out invitations to the area businesses.  They may be combining the Hanson Safety Day which is hosted annually by the Hanson Kiwanis and Shaws.  He is waiting on to speak with the DARE Officer.  Hanson Rod & Gun club will be conducting demonstrations
